But is It Art? - A Poem

What if you slept.
And what if while you slept you had a dream.
And what if you dreamt you went up to heaven and picked a beautiful flower.
And what if when you awoke the flower was in your hand?

Ah! What then?

Now is that philosophy or poetry?
Is it art?
Does being beautiful make a flower art?
Can nature be art?
Does it need to be framed to become art?
Is the act of framing human intervention?
So human intervention creates art - art is not naturally there.
If nature is the work of God - is art the work of Man?
But war is the work of Man - is war art?
War is destruction - art is creation.
Creation is the work of God - so nature is art.
Genetically modified grain is both nature and man made intervention.
Is that art - or science?
Is science art?
But science is the natural world.
So is the natural world art.
Framed by the laws of nature?
So can there be art without Man?
Or is observation of nature by Man art?
Is Man's expression of the world art?
Is art's purpose to express symbolically the natural world?
Bees dance to describe the location of pollen to the hive.
Is the bee's dance art or information?
Is art information?
Is information art?
Can information be beautiful?
What is beauty?
Is beauty art?
Useless information serves no purpose Framed, relevant information is useful
Is beauty usefulness?
Is uselessness ugly?
Can art be ugly?
Is art useless?
Is nature useless?
Is it Man's intervention that makes nature useful?
Can nature be ugly?
Is technology more ugly than nature?
Is ugliness worthless and beauty valuable?
Is beauty simplistic?
Is ugly complex? Is Mankind's work worthless?
Is Mankind worthless? Does only art have value?
Is art a paradox?
Does the Mona Lisa smile, or not?
Is it the paradox within the painting that gives it value, that makes it art?
Or is it that the man who painted it is a painter?
Is a painter simply a man with a brush in his hand?
Is painting a wall art, or decoration?
Is the act of decoration to make something more beautiful than it really is?
Is decoration deceit? Is decoration art?
Is art deceit?
Is there in truth no beauty?
Does art point to the truth - or is it all lies?
Is that art?
Am I art?
