| I
always found it frustrating that politicians never admit to not
knowing something. If you don't know, say so. Then you can at least
guess. If you don't say you don't know and then guess, then that's
deception.
There
are many situations where I love not knowing. Watching a magic trick
is an obvious one. Not knowing creates a state of wonder. Not knowing
is the basis of all storytelling - things are slowly revealed. Not
knowing forces us to want to know, to solve the problem, to explore
the universe, to search for the truth of existence.
So not admitting to not knowing is self deception and self obstruction.
It reminds me of the book of contemplation, 'The
Cloud of Unknowing' which says things like:
"And so I urge you, go after experience rather than knowledge.
On account of pride, knowledge may often deceive you, but this gentle,
loving affection will not deceive you. Knowledge tends to breed
conceit, but love builds. Knowledge is full of labour, but love,
full of rest."
